In base alle varie esigenze del momento, è ora possibile utilizzare i nostri strumenti in modo ottimale. Se si vuole concentrare l’attenzione sulla fotografia o l’osservazione di determinate porzioni di cielo, la cupola potrà essere aperta parzialmente. Nel caso si voglia osservare o fotografare fenomeni estesi (es. pioggia di meteore) o fare della didattica astronomica, l’apertura totale di 360° consentirà di visionare per esteso l’intero cielo senza i classici limiti imposti dalle cupole tradizionali, dove l’apertura non consente di avere mediamente oltre 6 gradi di campo nel senso orario.

I fulcri di apertura della cupola devono essere orientati nel senso Est-Ovest; in questo modo, l’apertura parziale si pone sulla finestra dell’eclittica.

La cupola è costruita interamente in metallo nobile sia nella struttura (acciaio inox) che nella copertura a scelta (inox, rame, zinco-titanio). Grazie all'innovativo progetto modulare che la contraddistingue, possiamo realizzarla con misure personalizzate dal committente.

Per garantire una perfetta protezione dalla pioggia sono state adottate due soluzioni tecniche di cui una collaudata nei secoli. 1) Nei punti di chiusura dei vari settori è stata applicata una tenuta rialzata ad U, cosa non presente nelle tradizionali cupole similari in vetroresina dove gli utilizzatori lamentano spesso infiltrazioni d’acqua specie quando piove con vento. 2) Le varie lamiere che compongono la copertura, non sono né saldate né rivettate tra di loro ma semplicemente ripiegate su se stesse due volte. Questa tecnica, consente di assorbire e favorire la naturale dilatazione termica dei metalli oltre che garantire una perfetta tenuta stagna. La soluzione della doppia aggraffatura del metallo per unire due diversi tagli di lamiere è adottata da secoli in campi per la realizzazione di cisterne e fusti per contenere liquidi, per esempio il classico barile di petrolio.
